Tooling/Wire Drawplate
Wire Drawplate
A wire drawplate is used to make wire from soft metal, such as gold, silver or copper, by pulling it through a series of gradually smaller holes in hard steel. The holes are sometimes inlaid with rings made of tungsten. To enable drawplates to withstand large forces involved in the process they are made fairly thick. One shown on the image is 7.5 mm thick and is used to draw wire from 2.0 mm to 0.2 mm diameter.
