Glossary/Monocoque

Monocoque

Monocoque is a French word used to denote a one-piece watch case.

The term is sometimes stamped or etched on the case back to alert the watchmaker that the watchcase must be opened through the crystal, either by the use of a crystal lift or by forcing compressed air into the case via the crown tube. Monocoque cases always make use of a split stem for the crown.
