Glossary/Detached Escapement

Detached Escapement

A detached escapement: is an escapement in which the oscillating element (pendulum or balance and hairspring) is almost entirely free of the mechanism which it controls, as in the lever and detent escapements and the free pendulum. Escapements with frictional rest are not detached.
