Glossary/Cross Beat Escapement

Cross Beat Escapement

A cross-beat escapement is a more accurate form of verge escapement having two spring-like balance arms swinging across each other on nearly the same centre. It was invented by Jobst Burgi circa 1586, but only 'rediscovered' in 1953 by a Dr H. von Bertele.

Also called a 'double balance'.
