Glossary/Beat

Beat

A beat is an isolated 'tick' or 'tock' of a clock or watch.

A clock that beats once per second will tick tock 3600 times in one hour and is said to have a beat count of 3600 beats per hour (bph). A watch that beats 5 times per second has a beat count of 18,000bph. Most modern watches beat at 28,800bph (or 8 beats per second).

One beat is equal to one vibration, or half an oscillation of a balance or pendulum.
